Building a Home Bar
Home Bar Plans, Blueprints, and Construction...
Welcome to the "Building a Home Bar Guide!" Let's talk about the ways the Internet can help you accomplish your goals of building your own custom home bar with an internet bought blueprint.
Planning your Custom Home Bar
If you plan to build your own custom home bar, the first thing that you'll need to focus on is finding some really nice looking home bar plans, or as some call them, "blueprints." Shop around on the net, and find some home bar plans that have the look you desire, as well as a design that will function well in the space you have. We've seen some really creative designs: some featuring built in fish tanks, outdoor tiki bars resembling a grass hut, L-shaped bars with built in kegerators, and even beautiful marble tops. Any unique, creative idea you have for a bar is truly possible! We believe you'll surprise yourself.
Most plans use general woodworking tools, which may already be at your home or shop. We're talking saws, screwdrivers, measuring gadgets, maybe a pencil and a yard stick, a drill and you're good to go. Heck, if you don't have these items, maybe a relative or a neighbor has them. Maybe even get Dad over to work on a project like you did with him as a child.
As far as the wood and building materials: you can use 2x4's, some plywood, possibly formica for the top, and oak or pine sheets work great. Some have used a glass top on their bars and put pictures underneath, old sports memorabilia, signs or alcohol-related company ads... you could literally stick anything flat under the glass! So, get creative... have fun with it!
The wooden moldings is what really makes bars look nice, and they also cover up the places where the bar was assembled. The moldings generally are made of oak, cherry, pine, or maple. These are a must have, and you may have to spend a bit. But, it's worth it. Don't skimp in this area.
Buying a Blueprint
As far as costs are concerned, we have seen bar blueprints sold on the internet via subscription, and as a single one time buy. Generally, pricing starts at about $19.99 for a one time purchase of a home bar plan.
Subscriptions generally allow you to download all of that particular companies home bar plans anytime you'd like for months at a time. This may be better for someone who was really happy with their bar they built and decided to go into business building bars for the locals in their community. Entertainment is very important to people, and it could be a very lucrative field if you have the gift of craftsmanship. Total pricing for the completed project should not go over $500. With really well built custom bars going for $1000 up to $3000, it's quite possible to make a nice living in this niche construction market!
For the one time bar build, we suggest the one time fee to get a single blueprint. Most do not offer hard copies of their products, so you would possibly need to print out the plans. Basically, you would pay the merchant securely over the web via a credit card processor, or possibly use the payment service recently bought by eBay, PayPal. Just always look for the little yellow lock in the corner of your browser to ensure that the website you are currently visiting, and possibly entering sensitive data is secure. That way no malicious users could possibly get to your personal information. Most credit card processors use 128 bit encryption, which would take 50 years to crack. So, shopping on the web is very safe when precautions are taken. Also, always use a credit card, as most credit card companies now offer protection from internet theft. Cash, bank debit cards, and money orders don't have that option, unless otherwise stated.
Final Thoughts...
Well, that about covers all that I wanted to cover today on the topic of building your own custom home bar. We hope you've learned a bit about how shopping goes on the internet, and maybe sparked some creative ideas to make your home a better place!
Home bars can really be a positive thing in your life: keeps you, your family, and friends in a safe environment. Having fun at home substantially decreases the likelihood that you would be robbed, assaulted, or worse. Your car is parked in your yard, as opposed to a bar parking lot where countless cars are broken into or stolen every year. On a more positive note, when larger home bars are built into your home permanently, your beloved custom wet bar may help you sell your home quicker when it's time to sell. Though, I wouldn't blame you if you packed it up, and took it with you! Enjoy shopping, and researching more about your custom home bar options!!
